On Monday I talked about why we should all be saying no to credit cards during this current economic crisis. I gave tips to avoid having to use the plastic people eater, and said I would dive deeper into a couple of the ideas later on in the week. So today I want to give you some ideas on what you could possibly sell online.
1. Clothes - We all probably have clothes in our closet that just don't fit anymore. Either we've put on some extra pounds during the holidays, or we've taken off some pounds with our New Year's resolution. If you don't, I bet you still have clothes that you haven't worn since the 90's, its time to get rid of these. Men if you need some help deciding what to sell, just ask your wive's. Mine is always ready and willing to get rid of anything I cherish.
2. Books - If you're a recent college graduate consider selling your textbooks through Half.com. You will be able to get a lot more money selling them online than you would by taking them back to your local college bookstore. If you don't have any textbooks to sell, or you're like me and have been out of college long enough that your books aren't valid anymore (One of my textbooks was selling for 75 cents) consider selling any book. Half.com is not just for textbooks, you can sell books, cd's, dvd's, video games, and movies. Which brings us to number 3.
3. Mulitimedia - Right now is the perfect time to get rid of those MC Hammer cd's you've been holding on to. Don't tell me you're too legit to quit, and yes I can touch this. MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice aren't making a comeback. So put those cd's or tapes (gasp) on Ebay and remember its all about the price, price, baby. While you're at it, go through your movie collection and take out all the movies you haven't watched in over a year. I'm sure you can use the extra storage space. And if you happen to have an old gaming system, say like the Nintendo or Atari , sell it. You wouldn't believe how much you can get out of a vintage gaming system in good condition.
4. Television - TV's have taken over our lives. Most of the time we have more TV's in our house than we have people. Its crazy. I'm not saying to sell every TV in your house, just the unnecessary one's. Ask yourself, "What has the tv done for me?". For most of us its taken us away from time we could spend with our family, or time we could be making money. And for all of you who have a TV in the bedroom, sell it and see if your love life doesn't improve.
5. Car - Now this is for those in serious financial trouble. If you have two cars, could you get by with one? My wife and I both have very long commutes to work so this doesn't work for us, but there's some people who have two cars and one sits in the driveway most of the time. By selling a car; you get money to pay on your debt, you no longer are buying gas for it, and you're saving on insurance. If this isn't doable for you, could you possibly sell or trade your car for something cheaper that gets better mileage.
This is a short lists of things you can sell to help your finances. Not all of them will work for everyone, and there's lots of other options out there. Have you sold anything on this list? If not have you got other ideas on things to sell? Post them in the comments section.
