Turning it Around

If you've been reading for awhile, you may remember, I wrote a few weeks ago about having to take on some new roles at my current job. Roles that I was less than pleased to take on. My new boss has wanted me to get my commercial driver's license so I could start driving a delivery truck a couple days a week. At the time we had very little work to do, and 3 people had just been laid off so I couldn't really say no. Since then I did start the process of getting my CDL. I took my written test and passed...the 2nd time around. But I've still yet to take my driving test, which is what I'm really worried about.

The good thing is, I haven't felt any pressure to take it. Our work has miraculously picked up. We even hired one guy back. Plus, our site manager had to have neck surgery which will keep him out of work for the next 4-6 weeks. That means I'm the only guy in the office. The guy in charge now. The Lord has smiled upon me. Now, this does come with more work for me. But it's work that I don't really mind. I have to work more hours, but it's ok. Because if I'm not having to drive an explosive truck, I'm happy.

Like most people I was scared to death to do any kind of big spending, but now I'm starting to loosen the hold on my wallet. Not anything crazy, but I'm starting to look at those home projects I had planned for the spring. We may start painting our house as early as this weekend. Who knows, if everything keeps going well, we may even take a vacation. Now, I'm not getting ahead of myself. I know that this could just be a temporary spurt, but I'm hoping that my job is turning around. I may still end up getting my CDL, but hopefully it's not going to be something I have to use.

How about your work, is it picking up any? Are you positive about where the economy is heading?

My husband works for Amtrak, and his particular base is hiring 10 new people in the coming months...honestly, since Amtrak is government funded, we have hardly felt the recession. (Except for our house we can't seem to sell across the country) We really are blessed that he has a well-paying job right now.

That's great. I'm glad you guys are doing well. My wife is extremely busy with her work right now also. She doesn't really see it as a blessing though.
