Recession Proof

Today is the last post in my series looking at the money principles presented in the sixth chapter of the book of Matthew. I think this set of scriptures speaks directly to where a lot of us are right now in our lives. You have the recession still looming, lay offs happening in mass quantities, banks refusing to give loans, and that leads to a lot of worried people. We're all worried right now. Some of us don't know if we're going to have the money to keep our families fed. Others are having to worry about their house being foreclosed on. And bankruptcy is becoming what many people feel is their only option. And yet God tells us not to worry.

“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?

“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

If you are a Christian, you're recession proof. That doesn't mean you want have to give up some things. You may have to cut off your cable. You may have to sell one of your cars. You might even lose your house. But despite all of that, God will care for your every need. He may not give you everything you want, but He'll make sure you have food to eat, clothes to wear, and some kind of shelter. I'm afraid if God gave us everything we wanted, pretty soon we wouldn't want God. So while everyone else in the country is worrying about the recession, we can have joy. Because we know that no matter what, God will always provide.

What are some ways God has provided for you during this recession?
