We're having a yard sale

Back in April I asked the question, Do you yard sale? In the article I shared ideas on how to have the best luck with yard selling. From the comments I got it looks like yes, a lot of my readers frequent yard sales. Tomorrow I will be having a yard sale of my own, and I thought I'd share some of the reasons why having your own yard sale can be a huge benefit.

1. Get rid of clutter - If there's one thing I've learned about my wife since we've been married, it's her hatred of clutter. Put that with the fact that I'm a pack rat, and you have a very volatile situation. Yard sales are great ways to get rid of all those items that are filling up your closets. Haven't you been dying to get rid of that cat picture your crazy granny got you? We have, and we did.

2. Another person's treasure
- While the items you're selling may be a bunch of junk to you, they could be really beneficial to others. Some parents are going through really hard times right now and don't have money to buy things like new clothes and toys for their children. By having a yard sale you're giving them to chance to buy slightly used items at a huge discount. I know I'm putting clothes in the yard sale that I've only worn once or twice.

3. Extra Cash - The biggest benefit of having a yard sale is the money you make. If we by some miracle sell everything we're putting in the yard sale, we could make up to $300. This may not seem like a lot of money, but we can find some uses for it. We could buy an item we need for our soon to be born baby. We could put the money towards the principal of our car. We could save it to take a weekend vacation before our baby arrives. The options are endless.

Have you had a yard sale this year? What did you do with the money you made?
